Black Swans and broods

Tuesday 28th December and Wednesday 30 December 2021

A couple of late morning bike ride circuits of the lake on these two days revealed the continued presence of cob BLB and CCL with two l size cygnets using the general area of shoreline of JKMP across the lower section of the lake to as far as the shoreline at Gummiuk. There appears to be no brood any longer at Bargang (pen BLC and cob BLD with four fully grown cygnets last seen here earlier in October).

Occupying the eastern arm S of the Ginninderra Freeway bridge, but not coming S towards JKMP, is the family party of cob BJU and pen BNY and their lone l size cygnet.

On the Wednesday the count for the Lake came to 8 or possibly 9 with the two usual family parties both seen along with a single adult alone in the Bimbi beach area. A single unidentified Black Swan has been using this side of the eastern arm with confrontations with BJU frequent up to a while ago. There may have been another lone adult on the west side of the lake towards Bargang but it was not identified.
